Before and after
Your month-end, two ways.
Between your work and your money there are three steps: tracking time, writing the invoice and updating your bookkeeping. Without Paperclock, you do them by hand.
Without PaperclockWith Paperclock
Without PaperclockAt the end of the month you piece your hours together from a timer app, your calendar and emails.
With PaperclockYour hours are already sorted by client and project.
Without PaperclockYou copy hours from your timer app into your invoicing tool.
With PaperclockYou tick the hours and the invoice is done.
Without PaperclockYour client wants a breakdown, so you build a timesheet in a spreadsheet.
With PaperclockThe timesheet is attached to the invoice automatically.
Without PaperclockYou're not sure your invoice has every detail it legally needs.
With PaperclockEvery invoice has the required details, and in Germany it's an e-invoice (ZUGFeRD or XRechnung).
Without PaperclockThen you enter the invoice again in your bookkeeping software.
With PaperclockSoon it lands in Lexware Office or sevDesk directly. Until then you upload the finished e-invoice instead of retyping it.
Without PaperclockOne more online account, your client data on someone else's servers.
With PaperclockNo account. Your data stays on your devices and in your iCloud.
Features
From timer to invoice in three steps.
Paperclock takes care of the three steps between the work and the money: tracking time, writing the invoice and passing it on to your bookkeeping.
1Timer everywhere
Start the timer wherever you are.
On your iPhone when you're out, in a window on your Mac or straight from the menu bar. Press ⌃⌥Space to open search, type the task and hit Enter. No hunting for the app.
One timer across your devices: start on your iPhone, stop on your Mac
Create your tasks right in Paperclock, each in its project. Client and hourly rate come from the project, so all that's left is starting the timer. Already planning in Notion? Paperclock pulls your tickets from there and writes every stopped timer as a row in your database.
Add tasks to a project and restart them whenever you pick them back up
Every task shows up on the timesheet with its ID and title
Notion is optional: tickets in, time out

3Invoices from your hours
Pick the hours. The invoice is done.
Select the time entries that go on the invoice. Paperclock works out net, VAT and total and creates an e-invoice: ZUGFeRD by default, a readable PDF with the data embedded. If a client needs XRechnung, you switch that client over once.

Who's behind it
Built by a freelancer, for freelancers.
I'm Jan Koenig, a freelancer in Germany myself. Every month I turn my hours into invoices. Paperclock is the app I wanted for that: a timer where I work, and a finished invoice at the end.
I'm building Paperclock on my own and in public. Follow along on X and tell me what you're missing.

Freelancers and self-employed people who work and bill by the hour, wherever they are: development, design, consulting, writing. If you track your time and turn it into invoices, Paperclock is built for you. If you work in Germany, it also handles e-invoices and the small business VAT exemption.
The launch is planned for November 2026, on the App Store for iPhone and Mac.
No. Paperclock writes invoices without any accounting software, always as e-invoices. The direct hand-off to Lexware Office and sevDesk is coming soon: connect it once, and every invoice you send lands there automatically as a record. Until then you upload the e-invoice there yourself.
Yes. Every invoice is an e-invoice (E-Rechnung): ZUGFeRD (EN 16931) by default, a readable PDF with the data embedded that any recipient can open. If a client requires XRechnung, a public authority for example, you switch the format for that client. For business-to-business (B2B) invoices in Germany, e-invoicing becomes mandatory in stages: from 2027 for businesses with more than €800,000 in revenue in the previous year, from 2028 for everyone. Small businesses under § 19 UStG (Kleinunternehmer) are exempt. Since 2025, every business in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices.
No. You create tasks right in Paperclock, each in a project, and start the timer on them. Notion is an option: connect a database and Paperclock pulls your tickets from it, and every stopped timer becomes a row in Notion with duration, date, client and the linked ticket. You decide once which column gets what.
Yes. Turn on the small business VAT exemption (Kleinunternehmerregelung, § 19 UStG) in the settings. Paperclock then leaves VAT off the invoice and adds the required note.
On your devices and in your own iCloud. Paperclock doesn't need a user account: download the app from the App Store and get going, and your iPhone and Mac sync through iCloud. Notion, Lexware Office and sevDesk only receive data if you connect them yourself. The details are in the privacy policy.
Yes. Paperclock comes in English and German, and invoices work in your currency with your VAT rate. The screens on this page show the German interface.
It stays. When your subscription ends, you can't track new time or finalise new invoices, but everything stays readable and exportable, including your existing invoices, which you have to keep for eight years. Under Export & Backup you save them per year as a ZIP with all PDFs, XRechnung files and a CSV journal.
No. Paperclock is a native app for iPhone and Mac, with a menu bar timer and sync through your iCloud. A web, Windows or Android version isn't planned.
Track it today. Invoice it on Friday.
Paperclock comes to the App Store in November 2026, for iPhone and Mac. Then you start your first timer, and by the end of the week it's an invoice.
